Why
Embrace Psych?
We are always going to have challenges…if we can embrace those challenges and learn how to overcome our difficulties, then that’s where we are going to find peace.
It’s Not Necessarily What We Go Through In Life, But How We Go Through In Life That Makes All The Difference.
Practice Philosophy
As humans, pain is part of life, which includes emotional and mental pain. Often we fear or are uncomfortable with this and as a result have difficulty allowing space for these emotions. We do loads of things to avoid it and sometimes that ends up backfiring and getting in the way of things we actually want from life. My practice philosophy is driven by the belief that we have the ability to access internal resources to live a more balanced and healthier life. I am passionate about empowering others to access these resources, and providing the psychoeducation, skills, and safe space for them to do so.
I believe that most people have the potential to grow and change. They just may not have the relevant knowledge and resources they need to achieve that. People want to live their lives the best way they know how, but often it’s a lot easier said than done. It takes deep work that involves introspection, unlearning, processing difficult emotions, and acknowledging the significance of our mental and emotional health. Often, personal pain is exacerbated by external factors as well, such as multicultural and systemic issues. These are important to acknowledge in the process of growth as they are central to the understanding, development, and presence of ourselves, and how we navigate the world we live in.
Vision
To empower others to embrace life’s challenges, using their own strengths and internal resources, to move in the direction of growth and valued living. To motivate others to learn and use healthy skills to manage emotional pain and adapt to change. To nurture confidence and ability to take action in one’s life; to create a life they are proud and inspired to live.
Mission
I believe that people can live the lives they desire. It starts with awareness that something is ‘stuck’, not working in the way we hoped it would, and willingness to acknowledge the need to reassess and try something different. Yes, it may be easier said than done; however, when you expand awareness of how your inner world is impacting your outer world (and vice versa) it opens up countless directions to choose from, creating opportunities for change and to build/enhance the life you want to live. When we learn to embrace the rollercoaster of life and to navigate its challenges in healthy ways, we have more energy to act in ways we value and to move in directions of our choice. When we are present, confident to take on the good and the bad, we have the ability, power, and space to create a life that is meaningful, joyful, and genuine.
Values
Values are things that you believe are important in the way you live and work. Here are some of mine: compassion, integrity, flexibility, action, mindfulness, diversity, and self-growth. I strive to “practice what I preach” and live a valued life both personally and professionally. Everyone has their own values and it is important to me to respect, appreciate, and acknowledge yours. Together, we will clarify what your values are and how you can better live in line with them.
Inclusivity
Embrace Psych is committed to providing culturally sensitive services to all our clients. No matter who you are, you have a background that is made up of unique experiences that shape and give way to your identities. Given the diversity of human beings, people seek out help with varied experiences specific to their racial and ethnic identities, gender, size, sexual identity, social class, socioeconomic status, religious affiliation, nationality, and/or disability status, to name a few. Embrace Psych strives to offer services that are inclusive, and support these varied experiences, by providing a safe place to be heard, appreciated, and accepted.
Professionally, and personally, we encourage awareness, tolerance, respect, acceptance, understanding, and an appreciation of our differences and similarities. These aspects of identity and experience often play a role in therapy and Embrace Psych provides a safe, knowledgeable, and open space to explore these experiences in your process as needed. Clinical training in diversity and multiculturalism has consistently been a part of our work and we are aware that this commitment will be an ongoing and open-ended journey.
