Individual Therapy
for teens

Individual therapy allows for the development of increased self-awareness by discussing issues and getting feedback from a mental health professional.

Teens can benefit from individual therapy by exploring thoughts, feelings, habits, experiences, and patterns to get a better understanding of themselves and others.

is Individual Therapy for My teen?

First of all, welcome! Whether you are a parent concerned for your teen or are a teen yourself, I know this is a difficult step to consider asking for professional help for your concerns. I will write this as if I am speaking to parents; however, if you are a teen yourself, I appreciate you taking this step towards self-growth and welcome any questions you may have. If you’ve made it this far, then at some point you’ve probably thought to yourself (or heard from others) that “maybe we should get some help.” Now this could mean many things; however, if you are concerned for your teen’s well-being, emotional, or mental health, one of the best things you can do for them is to give individual therapy a try.

Seemingly you have it all together, but deep down you’re filled with worry for your child. You feel out of control and try everything possible to regain control, but it’s not working! The teen years can be difficult, the ups and downs can feel like a never-ending ride. As a parent, you may feel exhausted and as if you are letting your teen down; however, please know that this is normal and many parents experience this. As confusing and complex as these years can be, trained professionals have a different level of understanding and approach to communicating with teens than you may be used to as a parent.

Therapy is different than just talking to friends and family; it is a scientifically proven, safe, and confidential space for your teen to face their challenges head on. None of us are born experts in emotions and thoughts, yet as humans we are constantly living with emotions and thoughts. Wouldn’t learning more about yourself, your mind, and your inner workings be beneficial to living the healthiest, balanced life you can? Evidence shows that therapy works! I am experienced in connecting with teens, even those that are initially hesitant or wary about therapy. Contact me today for more information about individual therapy for teens!

What is Individual Therapy?

In individual therapy you meet with a professional that is trained to help you better understand and navigate uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Therapy will look and feel different for each person; however, it often involves practicing mindfulness and being in the present moment, identifying personal values, increasing flexibility in the way you relate to thoughts and emotions, and becoming unstuck from unhealthy patterns. Therapy will be tailored to what you want, need, and hope for in respect to your goals. Therapy is not a “one size fits all” service and techniques from a variety of approaches may be included in sessions.

Therapy often involves delving into present, future, and past concerns, with a focus of meeting you where you are NOW. You will increase insight, gain new perspectives, be listened to without judgment or expectations, and be encouraged to self-reflect on a deeper level. Often, change involves learning healthy coping skills, such as deep breathing and grounding techniques, setting healthy boundaries, and clarifying values. Mindfulness is a powerful player in change/growth and will be included in the our work as well. When the time is right we will focus more on changing behaviors, working at your own pace, to work towards goals that you set for yourself.

Give yourself permission to feel,
but don't give your feelings permission to rule your life.
